Membrane bioreactor (MBR) is a water treatment technology that uses membrane separation process to replace the secondary sedimentation tank in traditional activated sludge process. In traditional wastewater biological treatment technology, sludge water separation is usually completed by gravity in the secondary sedimentation tank, and the separation effect depends on the settling performance of activated sludge. The settling performance of sludge depends on the operating conditions of the aeration tank, and improving the settling performance of sludge requires strict control of the operating conditions of the aeration tank, which limits the applicability of this process. Due to the solid-liquid separation requirements of the secondary sedimentation tank, the sludge concentration cannot be high, which limits the biochemical reaction rate. The contradiction between increasing volumetric load and reducing sludge load can easily lead to sludge expansion, resulting in substandard effluent quality.
\nMBR combines the two, greatly improving the efficiency of solid-liquid separation and increasing the rate of biochemical reactions. At the same time, by reducing the F\/M value, the amount of sludge generated is greatly reduced, thereby basically solving many of the constraints of traditional activated sludge processes.
